James McCoy

Over the past two years I have been studying for a Bachelor of Science degree at Canterbury University, continuing my education from the prestigious St Andrews College High School. My start in cycling came though riding to schoolboy rowing training as a 15-16 year old. I soon realised my competitive nature would be more suited to a sport where height wasn’t going restrict my ambitions. Since my rowing days I have developed as a cyclist winning the u20 South Island Secondary Schools time trial on two occasions. However I lacked real guidance until I joined the Benchmark Homes Cycling Team. From the beginning of 2010 I started to pursue a more professional approach to cycling having recently completed the Tour of Southland for the second time. This year brought me some top results like 2nd overall in the Benchmark Series including 2nd u23 overall, winning round 1 of the Benchmark Series and winning the Tour De Taieri. In the future I will continue to pursue my dream of making the top tier of professional cycling with the guidance, help and support of the Pure Black Racing Professional Cycling team.
